Cozy Mystery Monday

 Monday: Cozy Mystery

Sugar Skulls and Suspects (Sunnyside Magical Bakery Cozy Mysteries Book 1)

Sunnyside is a town filled with witches and other paranormal beings. Sure, normal folk come through, but most of the residents are dyed in the wool supernatural.

Maxine Aspen owns the Sugar Skulls Bakery right downtown Sunnyside, in the heart of the madness. She and her family have been running it (sort of) successfully for two generations, but times are getting tough and Max finds herself thinking outside the box to keep the doors open.

Just in time for Halloween, she starts creating Day of the Dead cookies, which are nothing fancy. Just a little fun and spice and all things (magically) nice.

But when her customers start falling down dead, Max has to scramble to figure out just what exactly is going on because she's the prime suspect.

And since she's not really great at magic, even Max isn't sure if she's to blame.

Max has taken over her family bakery with big plans for the place. Max even changed the name of the bakery. Max is worried about business as things keep getting worse. She has the landlord after her for the rent, she doesn't know if she will be able to pay the rest.
Max decides that she is going to put a little good luck spell on some cookies, they sell out. All of a sudden, a customer drops dead with her cookie in her hand. She doesn't know what to do and if it will affect business.
When Hope Vega comes in telling her that someone is after both of their businesses, that she wants to team up. It takes Max a little while to decide to work with her. When thing turn worse, she goes to Hope.

Max and Hope try to track who wants their businesses and why. Why is Max business cursed and how long has been like that. Max will do what ever she can to stop the curse and how to fix it. How is behind everything that is going on with her business and can Max and Hope set it right.

book review

The character is Max and her relatives really draw you in. You see this young witch come into her own. Nice to see some familiar characters in this book. Looking forward to seeing more.
